Process Design & Drafting

Detailed process flow diagrams, equipment layouts and full construction drawings - purpose-built for your species, throughput and compliance requirements.

Drawings That Work on Site

A process design and drafting package for a meat processing facility is not a generic industrial drawing exercise. Every species has its own processing sequence, hygiene separation requirements, equipment configuration and throughput logic. A layout that works for beef does not automatically work for sheep or goat - and a drawing that looks correct on paper may be impossible to build safely or maintain in practice.

Meatlink Engineering produces drawings that are grounded in actual processing knowledge. We understand kill floor sequencing, boning room workflow, carcass contamination risk points, drainage falls, overhead rail configurations and cold room interfaces - because we've designed, built and commissioned these facilities ourselves.

The result is a drawing package that builders, subcontractors and equipment suppliers can work from directly, without interpretation, without gaps and without the costly back-and-forth that comes from inadequate documentation.

We produce everything from early-stage concept layouts through to full construction drawing packages, coordinated across process, structural and services disciplines. Whether you're pricing a new facility or progressing a project to construction, our drawings give you the documentation to proceed with confidence.

What's Involved

From process flow to construction-ready documentation - a complete design sequence for your facility.

  1. 01

    Process Flow Development

Mapping the full processing sequence for your species and throughput, identifying each workstation, equipment item and flow bottleneck. This step establishes the logical backbone of the facility design - everything that follows derives from the process flow.

  2. 02

    Equipment Layout Design

Positioning all processing equipment, conveyors and mechanical handling systems within the available floor plan, optimising workflow and hygiene separation. We design for throughput, operator safety and Food Standards compliance - not just for geometric fit.

  3. 03

    Structural & Services Coordination

Coordinating process equipment locations with structural steel, drainage, services and cold room requirements. Early coordination between disciplines prevents the clashes and redesign that drive cost and delay in poorly documented projects.

  4. 04

    Construction Drawing Package

Producing a complete set of construction drawings suitable for pricing, council submission and on-site construction. Our drawing packages include all annotations, dimensions, details and specifications required to build without ambiguity.

  5. 05

    Design Review & Sign-Off

Reviewing the completed design package with you to confirm it meets operational requirements before construction commences. We don't consider the design phase complete until you've confirmed it works for your operation.

Why Our Design & Drafting Stands Apart

Drawings produced by engineers who understand what happens inside the facility - not just on the plan.

Species-Specific Design

Every layout is designed around the actual processing sequence for your species - not adapted from a generic template. The difference matters: species-specific design delivers better throughput, cleaner hygiene separation and fewer operational problems from day one.

Fully Coordinated Drawings

Process, structural and services drawings are produced as a coordinated package, reducing clashes and construction delays. When one discipline changes, the others are updated - not left to builders and subcontractors to reconcile on site.

Construction-Ready Documentation

Our drawing packages are used directly on site - no interpretation required, no gaps for builders to fill in. This means fewer RFIs, fewer site variations and a smoother construction phase for every trade engaged on the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our process design and drafting service.

What software do you use for drafting?

We produce drawings using current-version CAD software. All drawing packages are delivered in PDF format as standard, with DWG or DXF files available on request.

Can you redesign an existing facility rather than a new one?

Yes. We regularly assist processors with expansion, upgrade and reconfiguration projects. An as-built survey of the existing facility is typically the starting point for this work.

How do process drawings relate to building approval submissions?

Our construction drawing packages are prepared to a standard suitable for building permit and council planning submissions in Australian jurisdictions. We can liaise directly with your permit authority if required.
